Scandic Sjöfartshotellet Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Scandic Sjöfartshotellet on Katarinavägen, you immediately get the sense this place has stories to tell. The building itself has this maritime heritage that’s woven into everything — I mean, the name literally translates to “seafaring hotel,” and they’ve embraced that identity completely. It’s a four-star property that doesn’t try to be flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the entrance that made me feel like I’d made the right choice.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is probably the hotel’s strongest card. You’re right in the heart of Stockholm on Södermalm, which — if you know the city at all — is absolutely where you want to be. Södermalm has this perfect mix of trendy cafes, vintage shops, and cobblestone streets that actually feel authentic rather than touristy. I could walk to Gamla Stan in about ten minutes, and the metro connections are right there when you need them. The couples who stay here clearly get it — they’ve rated the location 8.8, and I can see why.
The Room Experience
My room had that clean Scandinavian aesthetic you’d expect, but with maritime touches that felt thoughtful rather than gimmicky. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and the windows actually open, which is rarer than you’d think in Stockholm hotels. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details: good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and a bathroom that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a cruise ship cabin (despite the nautical theme).
Breakfast & Amenities
The breakfast buffet is solid — nothing revolutionary, but they do the Scandinavian classics well. Fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying multiple nights. There’s private parking available, which is actually a big deal in Stockholm where finding a spot can be a nightmare. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and they’re knowledgeable about the neighborhood in a way that suggests they actually live in the city.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in Stockholm, but it gets the fundamentals right in a way that matters for actual travelers. The maritime theme gives it personality without being kitschy, the location puts you right where you want to explore, and the service feels personal rather than corporate. You know what really sold me? The little details — like how they’ve incorporated the neighborhood’s history into the decor, or how the front desk staff actually had useful restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere with character, not just booking a room for the night.
Apartments in Stockholm suit remote creatives with light-drenched studios, fast Wi-Fi, and views across the Baltic.

Locations is good. Friendly staff.

A couple improvements needs to be done. Eg could have provided kettle, coffee and phone in the room. Without a phone really hard to communicate with reception.

Location was great, very close to Gamla Stan.
Breakfast was good.Wildwomanofwonga from United Kingdom (6/10)
Breakfast was plentiful. We were apparently 'upgraded' to a room that had the sofa bed made up so that we were shuffling around the thing all the time and had very little space and no sofa to sit on.
Kelvin from United Kingdom (8/10)
Great location for was I needed, close to transport links.
Franziska from Germany (8/10)
great, central location and very nice breakfast buffet
Adam from United Kingdom (8/10)
Great location and good value for money. Lost a few marks for not having a safe in room. The hotel’s cleaning policy is on demand only, which I’m happy with, but it made getting a refill of coffee a bit more difficult to track down.
The best part, by a country mile, is the rooftop bar, with a cracking view of the city. Unbeatable.Gita from Latvia (8/10)

Tasty breakfast and location was awesome! Room felt like a dormroom but we didn't come to Stockholm to hang out in our room. Rooftop was cute and when the room was hot, the staff provided us with a fan!
