Rex Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Rex Hotel on Luntmakargatan, you immediately get the sense this is one of those places that locals actually know about. It’s tucked into Vasastan — honestly one of Stockholm‘s most livable neighborhoods — and the building itself has that understated Swedish charm that doesn’t try too hard. This three-star property offers something refreshingly authentic that I found way more appealing than some of the flashier options downtown.

The Vasastan Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in this part of town — you’re actually living like a Stockholmer for a few days. Vasastan is where young professionals and families hang out, which means real cafés, proper grocery stores, and tree-lined streets that feel genuinely residential. You can walk to Gamla Stan in about 15 minutes, but you’re also surrounded by local spots that most tourists never discover. The couples who stay here clearly get it (they rate the location 9.2), and I mean, they’re not wrong — it’s that perfect sweet spot between authentic and accessible.

Your Room and the Building

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully laid out — very Swedish in that “we don’t waste space” kind of way. Nothing fancy, but everything worked exactly as it should, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. The building has character without feeling old or tired, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of wandering around the city. The whole place feels clean and well-maintained, which honestly matters more to me than marble bathrooms or whatever.

Practical Stuff That Actually Matters

Breakfast is a buffet situation — nothing revolutionary, but it gets the job done with all the Swedish staples you’d expect. What I really appreciated was the parking situation; they actually have private spots available, which is kind of a big deal in Stockholm where finding a place to leave your car can be a genuine nightmare. If you’re driving in from somewhere else in Sweden or just prefer having your own wheels, this is actually pretty valuable.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Rex Hotel isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works. You’re getting a solid, reliable place to stay in one of Stockholm’s best neighborhoods, with staff who seem to actually care about doing their jobs well. The 8.1 rating makes sense — it’s not perfect, but it delivers on what it promises. For the price point and location, you’re honestly getting a pretty good deal, especially if you value being in a real neighborhood over having a concierge or fancy lobby. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that just let you settle in and feel at home.
