Hotel Sven Vintappare Overview

First Impressions

Walking down the narrow cobblestone alley of Sven Vintappares Gränd, you’d almost miss Hotel Sven Vintappare if you weren’t looking for it — and that’s exactly what makes it so charming. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away in one of Gamla stan’s quieter corners, which honestly feels like discovering a secret that most tourists never find. The building itself has that weathered Stockholm charm you see all over the old town, but there’s something particularly cozy about this spot that hits you the moment you step inside.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally in the heart of Stockholm’s medieval old town, but on a street that actually stays quiet at night. I mean, you can walk to the Royal Palace in about three minutes, hit up all the main Gamla stan attractions, but then retreat to this peaceful little corner when the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships. The location score of 9.8 makes total sense — couples especially seem to love it here, probably because there’s something undeniably romantic about wandering these ancient streets together, then having your own little hideaway to come back to.

The Room Experience

Here’s where this place really surprised me — the beds are genuinely fantastic. I know that sounds like such a basic thing, but you’d be amazed how many hotels in historic buildings compromise on comfort for character. Not here though. The room I stayed in wasn’t huge (this is Gamla stan, after all), but it was thoughtfully designed with that Scandinavian knack for making small spaces feel just right. The windows looked out onto the medieval alleyway, and there’s something almost magical about falling asleep to the sound of footsteps echoing off centuries-old cobblestones.

Morning Routine

The breakfast setup is pretty straightforward — a buffet that covers all the basics without trying to be fancy about it. What I appreciated was the quality of the ingredients, very Swedish in that understated way where everything just tastes better than you expect. You’ll find the usual suspects like fresh bread, local cheeses, and really good coffee, plus some Nordic touches that remind you where you are. It’s served in a cozy space that feels more like someone’s dining room than a hotel breakfast area, which somehow makes the whole experience more personal.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t the kind of place that tries to wow you with flashy amenities or over-the-top service — instead, it just gets the fundamentals really, really right. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the best local spots that aren’t overrun with tourists. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that feels authentically Stockholm rather than generically international. When you’re exploring one of Europe’s most beautiful old towns, sometimes the perfect hotel is simply one that gives you a comfortable base and gets out of your way — and Hotel Sven Vintappare does exactly that.

Everything went well. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in the old town in a charming old building. Room is spacious and clean. Breakfast, despite the space constraints, was rich and everything was delicious.

  • Heidi from Finland (9/10)

We loved the location in Old Town. The originality and feel of the historical house added a nice aspect to our trip. We stayed in the loft which had plenty of space and quaint leaning floors in the living room. The breakfast was super and the breakfast room pleasant with flowers on the tables and gingerbreads in the windows ( December). The staff is friendly, very helpful and accommodating.

This is a beautiful historic hotel in the perfect location in Old Town Stockholm. Our room was large with its own bathroom and an extra sink and coffee pot in the room itself. There was also a safe, that we used, and a TV, that we never turned on. The bed was comfortable and we were never bothered by noise. The staircase is narrow and winding, but manageable. Since we are seniors, we requested and got a room on the first floor up. Breakfast was very good with meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, pastries, bread, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee and tea. They even had oat milk and gluten-free granola and flat bread for me. I also liked that pastries and coffee were available 24/7 in the breakfast room. The helpful and polite staff were on site 7-1. The location was perfect. We were only steps from restaurants and shops and the sites in the Old Town, like the Royal Palace, Stockholm Cathedral and the Nobel Prize Museum. The Central Station, where we caught the Arlanda Express to the airport, was a 16-minute walk. We loved taking the hop on hop off boat over to the Vasa Museum, the Nordic History Museum and Skansen. This hotel was the perfect home base to walk around Stockholm.
