Castle House Inn Overview
First Impressions
Walking down the narrow cobblestone streets of Gamla stan, you’ll spot Castle House Inn tucked away on Brunnsgränd — honestly, the location couldn’t be more perfect if they tried. This three-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of Stockholm’s Old Town, and I mean literally in the thick of things. The building itself has that classic Swedish charm you’d expect from a place that’s been watching over these medieval streets for ages.
The Old Town Magic
Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re basically living inside a postcard. Step outside and you’re surrounded by those iconic colorful buildings, winding alleys, and the kind of atmosphere that makes Stockholm’s Gamla stan so special. The Royal Palace is practically next door, and you can wander to Stortorget (the main square) in about two minutes. What really gets me is how couples seem to fall head over heels for this spot — they’ve rated the location 9.6 out of 10, which honestly makes total sense when you experience it yourself.
Your Room and Comfort
The rooms at Castle House Inn strike that sweet spot between cozy and functional. You’re not getting massive spaces here — this is Old Town Stockholm, after all, where buildings were designed centuries ago — but everything feels thoughtfully arranged. The room I stayed in had those charming details that remind you you’re sleeping in a piece of history, yet with all the modern touches you actually need. The beds are comfortable, and honestly, after a day of exploring those cobblestone streets, that’s what matters most.
Starting Your Day Right
Breakfast here is continental style, which works perfectly for the kind of place this is. Nothing too fancy, but you’ll find quality basics that fuel you up for a day of sightseeing. I actually appreciated that it wasn’t trying to be something it’s not — just good coffee, fresh pastries, and the essentials. Plus, with Gamla stan right outside your door, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to cafes and bakeries if you want to mix things up.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Castle House Inn isn’t trying to compete with the big boutique hotels across the water — and that’s exactly why it works so well. The 8.1 guest rating tells the real story here: people come for the location and leave happy they chose authenticity over amenities. You’re paying for the experience of actually staying in Old Town rather than just visiting it during the day. When evening comes and the tour groups head back to their hotels in other parts of the city, you get to enjoy Gamla stan’s quieter, more magical side. That’s something you just can’t put a price on, you know?
To book a hotel in Stockholm during midsummer, visitors plan ahead to balance archipelago cruises with djurgården picnics.
