Stallmästaregården Hotel, Stockholm, a Member of Design Hotels Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Stallmästaregården Hotel, Stockholm, a Member of Design Hotels feels like discovering a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves. This four-star property sits in the Norrtull area — honestly, it’s one of those spots where you’re close enough to everything but far enough away that you can actually breathe. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciate more than those flashy places that try too hard.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re in Stockholm but you’re not drowning in tourist crowds every time you step outside. Norrtull has this authentic Swedish vibe where you’ll see actual locals going about their day, grabbing coffee, walking their dogs. The area feels residential but not boring, if you know what I mean. You can easily get into the city center when you want that urban energy, but coming back here feels like retreating to a quieter corner of the city that most visitors never discover.
The Room Experience
The room design really lives up to that “Design Hotels” membership — there’s this clean, Nordic aesthetic that doesn’t feel cold or sterile. I mean, Swedish design has a reputation for a reason, and they’ve nailed that balance between minimalist and cozy. The windows are generous, so you get plenty of natural light during those long summer days (or what little daylight there is in winter, honestly). The beds are seriously comfortable — not too soft, not too firm, just that perfect middle ground where you actually sleep well instead of tossing around all night.
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant here surprised me — it’s not just hotel food, it’s actually good Swedish cuisine with a modern twist. They source locally, which you can taste in the ingredients, and the staff knows their stuff when it comes to wine pairings. Breakfast is solid too, with proper Swedish options alongside the usual international fare. There’s parking available, which honestly is a blessing in Stockholm where finding a spot can be a nightmare, especially if you’re driving in from somewhere else in Sweden.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it attracts couples — and I get why. There’s something romantic about the setting without it being overly themed or cheesy. The service feels personal rather than corporate, like the staff actually cares about making your stay memorable. You’re getting that boutique hotel experience where attention to detail matters, but you’re not paying those insane Stockholm city center prices. It’s the kind of place where you can have a genuine Swedish experience while still enjoying modern comforts and thoughtful design touches that make you want to extend your stay just one more night.
Stockholm hotels keep design lovers close to Nordic museums, fika cafés, and waterfront cycling paths.

Other Comments:
We stayed in the Family Room/Junior Suite – Split Level which was two stories. The stairs are VERY steep so be warned if you have mobility issues, they would be a challenge.Cathy from New Zealand (8/10)
