Best Western Royal Star Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Best Western Royal Star, you immediately get the sense this is a hotel that knows its audience. The lobby has that polished, professional feel you’d expect from a four-star property, but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it — no marble columns or intimidating chandeliers, just clean lines and comfortable seating. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed to genuinely recognize returning guests, which makes sense when you learn this place has more repeat visitors than most hotels in the area.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about the Älvsjö location — it’s actually perfect if you want to avoid Stockholm’s tourist chaos while still having easy access to everything. You’re right next to the Älvsjö Mässan exhibition center, which is handy if you’re here on business, but more importantly, you can hop on the commuter train and be in central Stockholm in about 15 minutes. The free private parking is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving — try finding that in the city center without paying through the nose. Couples seem to particularly appreciate this setup, rating the location 8.8 out of 10, and I can see why.
The Rooms
I’ll be straight with you — the rooms aren’t going to win any design awards, but they nail the fundamentals. The beds are genuinely comfortable (guests consistently rave about getting great sleep here), and everything feels well-maintained rather than flashy. The bathrooms are a decent size with good water pressure, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without playing Tetris with your belongings. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details — proper reading lights, enough outlets, and blackout curtains that actually work.
Breakfast Experience
The breakfast buffet is where Best Western Royal Star really shows its strengths. It’s comprehensive without being overwhelming — you’ve got your standard continental options alongside some Swedish specialties that give you a taste of local flavors. The coffee is consistently good (which matters more than people admit), and they keep everything well-stocked even during busy periods. I mean, there’s something to be said for a hotel that can execute the basics really well rather than trying to be fancy and falling short.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to this place is reliability — it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. The combination of genuinely comfortable beds, solid breakfast, free parking, and that sweet spot location creates a package that just works, especially for couples exploring Stockholm or business travelers who want to avoid the city center hustle. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use, but you’re getting quality where it counts. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that simply get the fundamentals right, and that’s exactly what you’ll find here.

Location is excellent. Food was amazing. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
Félix from Belgium (9/10)
I took a room only to sleep because I arrived very late my first day and left very early the third one. In between, I never stayed at the hotel.
No problem for the late check-in and staff courteous and kind.
On second day, I had the breakfast but with the amount of people eating in, there were not enough things to eat. Couldn't get my hands on eggs for example. The average quality of the rest was good.
In the room, one thing special was the fact that there was no main light. I had to switch on/off an ambient light, it's not the most convenient. Sheets of the beds are weird because smaller that the width of the bed but since I was alone, it was fine.Josephine from Sweden (8/10)

Mike from Netherlands (8/10)
Really friendly staff. Breakfast was good, very consistent every day. Gluten free options included. The location is very nicely situated to travel in and out of Stockholm by car and public transportation. The commuter train station is a 5 minute walk away from the hotel.
We love driving to places by car, the freedom it gives, however we ended up using public transportation with a 72-hour group ticket. This was far more cost efficient than the parking, congestion tax/toll, and fuel combined.
